Farming may be the oldest industry known to mankind but it’s certainly the most underrated of any known to us today. It has helped build civilisations but farmers today are forced to commit suicide in most nations across the globe. The situation is grim even in the so called first world nations and hence there is a serious need to address their plight. Article source - 3ders.org/Image AFP

There are many UN addressed issues that these farmers face eg. The high cost of inputs, dependency on rainfall, expensive tools, extreme climate changes, and government policies that these poor farmers have to deal with. The world cannot show a blind eye to these issues and the 3d printing community has decided that they will force the change for a better living for these farmers.

Jim Taylor and Debbie Aung Din are such 3d printing enthusiast from Myanmar who have set out to address the issues of farmers in their country. To do so they established a company called Proximity Designs, which is now helping local farmers by designing custom tools which can in return offer better yield.

Based out of Yangon, which is the biggest city in Myanmar, they have built a company which is now 350 people. The company has developed and designed a sprinkler system which has done wonders to the way poor Burmese farmers water their plants.

According to a beetle farmer Mr. Kyaw Win, the sprinklers have helped him save the cost of labour and get better quality of yield. He owns a half an acre of land near yangoon and he grows beetles on it and these 3d printed sprinklers have been a great success story for him. Proximity Designs, informed the press that the ease of creating prototypes using 3d printers and working hand in hand with farmers have helped them create 3d printed tools which are better equipped to solve every day issues of the farmers.

This is yet another example of how 3d printing can change the way we live, its also a perfect lesson for people who are interested in the technology.

Happy 3D Printing!!
